Welcome to my online office. It is an honor and privilege to represent and serve the over 70,000 residents of Ward 8. In the past four years we have worked diligently to slowly change the image of Ward 8 from negative to positive. We are ending the despair and the hopelessness which exists among too many Ward 8 residents. Under my leadership hundreds of affordable housing units have been built and many more are on the way. I have pushed for and gotten the city to agree to hire every young person who wanted a job last summer. Millions of dollars have been put into Greater Southeast now known as United Medical Center to improve our health delivery system. More of our adults are receiving employment opportunities that were once non-existent. As a result of residents taking pride in our neighborhoods our streets and alleys are a little bit cleaner. All these things are done with one goal in mind and that is to make Ward 8 the most loved and the most livable ward in the city.

As you look around Anacostia you can’t help but feel pride and hope as many new development projects are underway and more are in the planning stages. In light of the influx of much needed retail and new business opportunities about to come to the area, we have established a Business Improvement District. Anacostia is poised to join ranks of other established and growing neighborhoods where retail and business are blossoming.

As your councilmember I will voice your concerns and opinions as well as fight for the well being of citizens of Ward 8 and the District of Columbia. Therefore I would like to hear from you so that I can better serve your community.

Again, thank you for visiting my online office and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Marion Barry
Councilmember – Ward 8
