First
conducted in 1991, the FIU Cuba
Poll represents a major source
of data on the Cuba-related
attitudes of the Cuban American
community in southern Florida.
Co-sponsored by the Center for
Labor Research and Studies,
the Institute for Public Opinion
Research, and the Cuban Research
Institute, the poll is designed
to measure Cuban-American opinions
on US/Cuba policy and how these
attitudes impact the South Florida
area.
Last conducted in 2004, the
FIU Cuba Poll provides the most
detailed portrait of the feelings
of the Cuban community in South
Florida, providing valuable
data on the Cuban American response
to changes in Cuba, politics
in the US, their relationship
with the island, and international
events. To be conducted in Spring
2007, the next FIU Cuba Poll
will measure the attitudes of
Cuban Americans regarding the
recent political changes, as
well as opinions on the legislation
restricting travel to Cuba and
banning universities in the
state of Florida from sponsoring
travel to the island.
